Biography
Baritone Miguel Andoor was educated at the Los Angeles Conservatory, and was a protégé of the great Mario del Monaco. He debuted in Italy with the Opera di Roma, as Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana.
Born of Mexican/Lebanese parents, his career has encompassed the operatic and concert scenes in the United States, Europe, and Latin America, highlighted by a Command Performance for the Consul of Monaco and a contract with the Israel National Opera as its principal baritone.
Miguel had the lead roles in the American Premiere of Verdi's Giovanna D'Arco at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the World Premiere of Gonzales' Una Jibara at Alice Tully Hall. A personal triumph of Miguel's was being called upon to sing Amonasro in Aida, replacing an ailing Metropolitan Opera singer with three hours notice.
Of Miguel's Baron Scarpia, Bill Zakariasen of the New York Daily News said, "...The top was secure and he acted the role with proper unctuous villainy. Moreover, he delivered the text with crispness and accuracy..." He has also been acclaimed for his portrayals of Rigoletto, Germont, Figaro, Rodrigo and Lord Ashton in appearances with the Seattle Opera, the Connecticut Grand Opera, Opera Classics of New Jersey, Orfeo Opera of Italy and the Lubo Opera.
Miguel has also worked and coached with notable conductors and stage directors such as Anton Guadagno, Carlo Moresco, Vincent La Selva, Anthony Morss, Anton Coppola, Glynn Ross, Peter Ebert and Robert Hoyem.
